Lawrence Memorial
Hospital
Lawrence Memorial Hospital (LMH) is a 173-bed community hospital owned
by the City of Lawrence, Kansas. It is licensed for 146 acute care beds,
15 rehab and 12 skilled nursing facility beds. The hospital is accredited
by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO), and the Commission for Acute Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
LMH receives no tax support from the city or county and serves the community's
health care needs regardless of individuals' ability to pay. Dedicated
to improving the health of the community, as a not-for-profit hospital
LMH invests all excess revenues in services, equipment and facilities
which further that mission.
The Lawrence
Aquahawks
The Lawrence Aquahawks is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing
a program of swimming instruction for competition for the youth of Lawrence,
Douglas County, and surrounding communities. The Aquahawks is open to
all youth who have completed basic swimming instruction subject to the
availability of space in the program. The club is operated by the parents
of swimmers who annually elect a board of directors to manage club operations.
The board is responsible for hiring the head coach, providing oversight
of the club's operations, and coordinating fund raising and volunteer
activities.
As the only competitive swimming program in Lawrence for youth, the Aquahawks
must be responsive to a broad range of community needs. Whether an athlete
joins the Aquahawk program to improve physical conditioning, to prepare
for high school swimming, or to race competitively at the national or
collegiate level, the Aquahawks try to provide the training to allow the
athlete to achieve his or her goals.

destructive power of home construction quite seriously. For the past two
years, she has expanded her general practice to include a specialty in
dealing with the strife that often erupts from remodeling. That's right:

Off-Leash
Dog Parks
The facility includes restrooms, drinking fountain and water for dogs,
plus a small parking lot. Paths are mowed through the fields and along
wooded areas. Users are asked to be responsible for their pets and obey
rules and regulations posted at the site. To access the park, take Clinton
Parkway west to the Clinton Dam road, turn south on the dam road and take
the first left onto 902 Road. Follow 902 Road to the first left. The 30-plus
acre Off-leash Park is at the bend in the road that leads to the north
side of the spillway.

Society
The Lawrence Humane Society acts as advocates for animals. We believe
in the value of humane attitudes toward all living creatures. We shelter
stray, orphaned, and unwanted animals in our community. We strive to place
all animals in responsible, permanent homes. We work to reduce births
of unwanted pets, to eliminate cruelty and neglect, and to promote kindness
toward all animals. We educate our community and assist in the enactment
and enforcement of laws relating to humane care of animals.
Big Brothers Big Sisters
of Kansas
Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters helps boys and girls, most of whom
are considered at risk and live in single-parent homes, achieve their
full potential through long-term personal relationships with carefully
screened and caring volunteers.

Disc Golf Course
Come try your hand at disc golf! There are two challenging courses in
Lawrence to challenge the beginner, as well as the advance player.

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department oversees a park system which
includes 52 parks.

The Lawrence Public Library is open a total of 73 hours per week, year-round.
This is among the highest number of weekly service hours of any public
library in the State of Kansas. While many Kansas public libraries have
abbreviated hours during the summer, and are closed Friday evenings, we
are pleased to offer the following hours of service:

Saturday: 9am - 6pm
